ONE MAN ARMY

A clone-army composite photograph: five identical copies of the same man with the face from the reference photo distributed across an indoor subway-station staircase, all in the same outfit, all from one session with a locked-off camera so lighting, skin tone and perspective match perfectly between them. Arrangement: staggered in depth rather than aligned — one in the foreground at the left edge stepping down with an arm extended, one seated in the center on the steps with legs apart and a hand braced behind him, one standing at the right edge against the wall with a hand on his hip, one further up on the landing adjusting his sunglasses with both hands, and one on the intermediate landing raising an arm in a wave — the zigzag leading the eye up the stairs and back to center, each figure correctly scaled to its distance and casting a short soft contact shadow at its feet. Every clone strikes a different pose and looks in a different direction so the group reads as real people rather than a repeated pattern. Wardrobe (identical on all five, menswear): a black snapback cap with a flat brim, small white embroidery and a silver dollar-sign logo on the side, worn straight; black wraparound sunglasses with dark opaque lenses; an oversized boxy black racing jersey tee with bright orange raglan shoulder panels and orange sleeve cuffs, "RACING" printed along both shoulder seams, outlined white "07" numerals on each sleeve, small orange and white sponsor-style patches across the chest reading "MOTIVE FORCE", and white collegiate lettering reading "LOS ANGELES 07" and "STREET TIDE" down the front; layered silver chain necklaces with a small cross pendant; a black digital watch; extremely wide-leg heather-grey sweatpants with a drawstring waist and large black bubble-graffiti lettering printed down the left leg and across the right hip; a long white pearl bead chain hanging from the waistband; and white leather low-top sneakers. Environment: a concrete staircase with metal step nosings, a horizontal-tube stainless steel handrail on the left, walls clad in large-format white ceramic tile with visible grout lines, a white ceiling with recessed circular downlights and a strip of warm yellow lights running up the right side, and speckled grey granite flooring at the base. Lighting: flat overhead interior fluorescent and LED light, diffuse and directionless, no hard shadows, neutral-warm temperature with a faint yellow cast, low contrast, controlled highlights on the white tile and a faint sheen on the dark sunglass lenses. Camera: vertical framing from the foot of the stairs at chest height angled slightly up, moderately wide lens with the wall and handrail verticals converging gently, deep depth of field with every figure sharp. Palette: white and grey tile, concrete and sweatpants as the desaturated neutral ground, black as the graphic anchor, bright orange as the dominant saturated accent standing out against it, white lettering and sneakers as the light values, and the yellow ceiling lights as the ambient warm note.
